Episode Transcription
Avram: We went to the zoo the other day, and it was just about damn near a disaster. Well, more specifically, uh, our oldest son, Lincoln, loves the zoo. But when we talked about going, and when we talked about going to the zoo, he was all pumped about it. But when it came to getting him to go, to like, what, put his shoes on and go in the car?
Like, there was so much struggle, just getting to the car, to get to the zoo.
You guys will laugh because the other day we did this episode on future pacing. I think it was episode number 70, so you can go back and laugh at that. Uh, there was no future pacing that we could do to get out in front of. How upset he was with transitioning to go to the zoo.

Super intense.
Yeah, it was, by the way, we’ve got a co host today. That’s our youngest August hanging out here in the podcast studio. He woke up early from his nap, so he’s just chilling with mom and dad. We got to record these podcasts before we go on a family trip next week. So we’re getting it done. In any case, uh, the episode today should say it all.
This is, this is all about kids. kicking and screaming, and we realized that in anything in life, when you make a change, there’s always gonna be pushback.
Mm hmm.
Yeah, and and so like we finally get everything and we’re on the way to the zoo and he does eventually calm down and when we get there it’s like a totally different kid because he’s stoked.
Running up ahead, he’s talking to everybody, you know. Um, and then we had a similar thing on the back end, right? It’s like, he was clearly done and ready to go home.
Mm hmm,
mm hmm, the wagon.
Right.
Well, yes. Well, and then he’d be like, I want to go in the wagon. You put him in there and then he’s like freaking out. So, we just realized through all of that, that um, Like we s The baby, yeah. Like, um, like we were sharing, he’s just so cute sitting in Rachel’s arms right now. Maybe we’ll, maybe we’ll pop a photo up on the show notes today of our little co host.
Hey, Augie. Like shaking his head and stuff. That’s his happy shake. So we realized that there are times when you, you know what’s better for your kid and you just gotta move forward.

Yeah. Yeah. Right. Right. Yeah. So you can expect pushback and, and have made the decision already that we’re going to do this. Let’s be honest. Sometimes when your kids are freaking out, you’re just like, whatever, we’re not going to go. And that’s, that’s an impulse. Like if you’ve had a long day, a long week, you’re pretty close to that decision already.
But you have to have decided before the fight begins that you are going to make it out the other side. Uh, the other thing that we thought about and realized that was, you know, a big part of our business success as well, and is that like, If you want to change something in your business, a process, or who does something, or you bring in a new hire, or you want to raise your prices, you know, you might have team members that push back with doing something different.
A lot of times Rachel and I are having discussions about stuff. Rachel, how often am I kicking and screaming to get something new done that we’ve never done before?
Yeah.
And I’m pretty resistant, like, oh, we have a million other things to do right now. Yeah. Um, well,
sure. Yeah.
It can really be anybody.
Yeah. And we realized through this, you know, the intensity that your toddler will throw at you, is very obvious, right? So they’re exerting that pressure on you. But like, you know, we’re talking about raising prices. So we’re going through a price raise with our business right now and having conversations with clients about the increase in price.
Right, and you can feel their discomfort around it even even before you have the conversation you can anticipate it And so we realized that a lot of stuff we tend to avoid Business household and otherwise because w
e’re uncomfortable with how much discomfort the other person might come back with
Yeah, that’s a great point That’s a great point. I think that, that sort of brings everything back around home, to Rachel’s point, you, you want something, you have to decide, and you have to rip that band aid off, and move forward. It’s the fastest way for you to get where you want to go, despite the discomfort.

So, kicking and screaming, doesn’t matter, it’s worth it, I’ll change, especially the intentional changes. always worth it. Sometimes it just takes some extra energy and some motivation to persevere and making that decision. It’s like, you know what? We’re just going here.
