How to Live with Intention and Purpose—Without Feeling Overwhelmed

Life moves fast. Between running a business, raising kids, and juggling everything else, it’s easy to feel like we’re just going through the motions. We check off to-do lists, rush from task to task, and suddenly, another year is gone.

But what if we paused? What if, instead of just getting through the day, we focused on how we spend our time and energy?

Over the past year, we made this shift. By prioritizing what truly matters, in both business and personal life, we’ve seen incredible changes: less stress, stronger relationships, and a deeper sense of fulfillment.

If you’ve ever felt stretched too thin or wondered where your time and money go, this is for you.

Rethinking What Really Matters

For a long time, we assumed that certain things were just part of life—buying gifts for every occasion, working long hours to “get ahead,” saying yes to every opportunity. It wasn’t until we took a step back and embraced intentional living that we realized a lot of what we were doing wasn’t actually adding value to our lives.

We started asking simple but powerful questions:

  • Does this align with our values?

  • Is this bringing us closer as a family?

  • Are we spending time on things that truly matter, or just doing them out of habit?

Those questions changed everything.

Prioritizing Experiences Over Things

One of the biggest shifts we made was changing how we approached gift-giving—especially around the holidays. Instead of defaulting to buying presents, we started asking ourselves: Is this really the best way to show love?

A perfect example of this was when Avram’s parents decided to take us to the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta instead of buying gifts. Instead of getting another “thing” to add to our house, we had an incredible experience together.

We watched the balloons rise into the sky, made memories with our kids, and actually spent quality time as a family. That’s something we’ll remember forever—unlike most gifts that end up forgotten in a closet.

It made me realize how much experiences create stronger connections than material things ever could.

This was a big topic in Episode 61 of the Babies and Business podcast, where we talked about why we’re rethinking traditional gift-giving during the holidays.

Instead of feeling pressured to buy more, we choose experiences that bring our family lasting value. If you’re looking for ways to simplify and be more intentional, that episode is worth a listen.

Being Intentional in Business and Life

This mindset shift hasn’t just impacted our personal lives—it’s also changed how we run our business.

We used to believe that success meant constantly saying yes to every project, every meeting, and every opportunity that came our way. But all that did was leave us overworked, exhausted, and unable to give our best to the things that mattered.

Now, we approach business like we approach our personal life: with intention.

  • We take on clients who align with our values, rather than just anyone who will pay.

  • We invest in mutually beneficial relationships rather than ones that drain our time.

  • We focus on quality over quantity, knowing that doing a few things well is better than spreading ourselves too thin.

How to Start Being More Intentional

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stretched too thin, or just ready to embrace mindful living and be more intentional with your time and energy, here are a few things to consider:

1. Define What Matters Most

What are the things that bring the most value to your life? For us, it was family time, meaningful experiences, and building a business that truly helps people. Once you’re clear on what’s important, it becomes easier to filter out distractions.

2. Say No More Often

Not every opportunity is worth your time. Whether it’s an invitation, a business deal, or even a holiday tradition, ask yourself: Is this something I genuinely want to do, or am I doing it out of obligation?

3. Invest in Experiences Over Things

Think about the moments that have had the biggest impact on your life. Chances are, they weren’t tied to material things but to shared experiences and relationships. Find ways to create more of those moments.

4. Align Your Business with Your Values

If you’re a business owner, ask yourself: Is my business supporting the life I want to live? If not, what changes can you make to align it more with your values? Sometimes that means raising prices, working with fewer clients, or delegating tasks so you can focus on what you do best.

Intentional Living Starts with Everyday Choices

At the end of the day, how we spend our time and resources defines the kind of life we build. By focusing on mindful living, making intentional choices, and valuing experiences over things, we can create stronger relationships, deeper connections, and a more fulfilling life.

Getting caught up in life’s chaos is easy, but taking a step back and making intentional choices can make all the difference.

So ask yourself: Are you spending your time and resources in a way that truly serves you? If not, start today. Choose one habit to adjust, one decision to make with intention, or one area of your life to simplify—and take the first step toward the life you want.
